Vikram Sobti is a Partner in C&M’s Competition Law and Disputes Practice. Vikram brings a wealth of experience, merging his extensive litigation and court experience with deep knowledge of competition law. Vikram is at ease with both international commercial arbitrations as well as domestic arbitrations. His result-oriented approach and commercial prudence makes him a hit with clients who seek his expertise even at a pre-dispute stage.
He focuses on arbitrations in the engineering and construction spheres, and is currently engaged in numerous arbitrations in the telecom infrastructure sector. His enviable track record of obtaining favorable interim measures as well as final awards for his clients in arbitration is surely aiding his recognition as a promising practitioner in the field of arbitration. He is considered as ‘methodical, balanced and responsive’ by his peers and clients. Well regarded for his strategic vision, particularly when it comes to advising on the relative merits of pursuing a fight or a settlement.
Vikram also advises and represents clients in a wide range of competition law matter before various courts and tribunals, including due process challenges before courts in India. He has extensively advised clients on various aspects of competition law, including, cartels; unilateral conduct; vertical restraints; complex merger transactions; joint ventures; and compliances. Vikram was involved in the first cartel case filed before the Competition Commission of India and the first decision of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) reversing the orders of the Commission. He has also represented trade associations and individuals in enforcement actions by the antitrust agency; and advised and formulated competition compliance programs.
Vikram regularly writes on emerging issues on competition law for the American Bar Association, India Business Law Journal, GCR, Manupatra Competition Law Reports. Vikram also co- authored the India Chapter on ‘Immunity, Sanctions & Settlement’ published in Global Competition Review. Vikram is invited in various fora to share his views on the impact of competition law on business practices, and providing his outlook on the law to make it more accessible. He is also involved in a bi-annual publication of the firm providing case law and statutory updates on law of arbitration. This has received rave reviews from judges and arbitrators alike.
